Equipment - What You Will Need: Practice Suits - Suit worn by
swimmers during practice sessions. They are generally made of nylon, Lycra or
stretch nylon. Many times swimmers train with more than one suit on at a time
for two reasons. (1) Two old faded, or torn suits are cheaper that buying a
new one. (2) Two suits create drag, which is good for training purposes. Team Suits - Team suits
help swimmers feel they are a team. We encourage their use at swim meets. The
team suit is currently black because of their availability and affordability.
They are not a requirement. A cap - A latex swim
cap used during practice keeps hair out of the swimmer's eyes and decreases
the effects of chlorine on the hair. Usually there are team caps available
for purchase. Goggles - lenses worn by
swimmers during practice and races to enhance vision and protect the eyes
from the water. Make sure they're adjusted prior to use. Sweats - Some type of
warm-up or sweat suit should be worn at all-day meets to keep swimmers warm. Kickboards - Boards used
during workout to isolate and strengthen the legs. These are usually part of
each pool's inventory and need not be purchased individually. Pull Buoys - Two pieces of
buoyant materials that are held between the thighs to isolate arm stokes and
strengthen the upper body. These are generally supplied by the pool or team
and need not be purchased individually. |
